COURSE OVERVIEW

This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work.

The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others.

It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies.

It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.

This unit meets the general construction induction training requirements of:
• Part 1.1 Definitions and Part 6.5 of the Model Work Health and Safety Regulations.
• Division 11 of Part 3 of the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996 for Western Australia; and

It is expected that site-specific induction training will be conducted prior to conducting construction work.
Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit. Relevant work health and safety state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm jurisdictional requirements.

Construction White Card application fee is $26.00 and payable to the Territory Business Centre, this fee is not included in your course fees.

Where the value for an individual’s combined course fee’s is more than $1500 a deposit will be paid, with balance to be paid before the training completion.

Duration

Course duration is 6 hours in line with industry recommendations.

AMS Training offers this course for face to face as a public course held at AMS Training 1/22 Beresford Rd Yarrawonga or onsite at your workplace.

This course starts at 8am and finishes at 2pm.

Learning & self-assessment materials are made available to all students once course fees are paid allowing self-paced learning prior to the course.

Entry

Numeracy skills to:
Locate and recognise numbers commonly used in safety signs.

Oral communication skills to:
Ask questions to clarify instructions
Listen to instructions to identify key safety information
Tell another person about a construction problem or hazard

Reading skills to:
Follow simple pictorial safety instructions
Follow simple safety instructions that are written in English.

Problem-solving skills to:
Select risk control measures.

If English is a second language for participants or has any concerns with Language literacy and or numeracy or any other learning challenges or needs, you should discuss with the administration team prior to enrolment and trainer assessor prior to the course commencement.

Learning materials are made available to all students once course fees are paid allowing self-paced learning prior to the course.

Delivery Mode

Course duration is 6 hours in line with industry recommendations.

Notes

NT Worksafe

Once you have passed your course you will need to apply for an NT Construction White Card.

You can lodge your application with the Territory Business Centre.

Applications are to include your statement of attainment or written declaration that was issued in the preceding 60 days. The application fee is payable at the time of lodgement is $26.00 for a new or replacement card.

Your white card can be applied online or alternatively you can apply to the Territory Business Centre via post, email or in person.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

A USI is your individual education number for life. It also gives you an online record of your VET training undertaken in Australia. Students must have a unique student identifier (USI) to obtain their nationally accredited certificate. To apply for a USI go to www.usi.gov.au. If you have undertaken any VET training since 2015, you may already have a USI. Find it now.

Quality

On successful completion of this course, participants will be issued an AQF certification. Training and assessment are provided in line with all Registered Training Organisation obligations including but not limited to providing quality training and assessment outcomes & complying with the standards for RTOs 2015.

A few things to consider

Once you pay, we email you the learner guide and you can study for your course.

You will need to complete a closed book exam for the Forklift and EWP High Risk Work Licence courses.

We offer a free resit for anyone that does not pass on their first attempt.

We have smaller class sizes, so the trainer will have more time to assist you.

A verbal assessment may be used for the closed book exam, if required.

Night class options are now available.

We all get busy during the week but the great news is, AMS Training offer after-hours courses. Options available include public and weekend Forklift and EWP courses.

We also offer after-hours courses and Verification of Competency (VOC).  For group bookings this can include night classes or weekends.
